These services include diagnostic (medical, psychological, vocational evaluation); vocational counseling; physical restoration; vocational training; job seeking skills training and placement; jon coaching; and occupational tools and equipment. Eligibility is based on three factors:

Family Learning & Development Center: The Family Learning and Development Center offers several programs to improve literacy, develop vocation skills, and provide support services. Goodwill helps people with disabilities and barriers to employment make the transition to independence through education, training and employment services. Our programs include:
1034 Nold Avenue Wooster Senior Employment Center Welcome, Where Experience Meets Opportunity! The Senior Employment Center provides community-based services to train, motivate, and empower mature workers through the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), an initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Labor as a part of TITLE V of the Older Americans Act. This federally subsidized program helps mature workers update/gain valuable skills and develop confidence with paid, part-time training experiences at local nonprofit and government agencies. The organization (host agency) benefits from the older worker’s experience, reliability and skills; at the same time, the older workers are provided with on-the-job training in a variety of skill areas enable them to find unsubsidized employment. Older workers are trained for a variety of positions in the field of accounting, administrative assistant, cook assistant, data entry, driver, file clerk, food service worker, home health aide, janitorial and maintenance services, receptionist, and much more. To qualify for the program, a person must be at least 55-years-old, have limited income, live in Medina, Wayne, Holmes, Ashland, or Richland Counties, want to learn new skills and become self-sufficient. There is no upper age limit and there are people who have successfully worked in the program into their 80’s and 90’s. Phone: 330-264-6630 Mental Health & Recovery Board of Wayne and Holmes Counties The Mental Health & Recovery Board is comprised of volunteer citizens and is commissioned under Ohio law to serve as the local mental health and substance abuse authority for Wayne and Holmes Counties. The Board's purpose is to assess community needs and to plan, organize and manage public resources so essential services are provided. A network of service agencies contract with the Board to provide the following general services to the two county district:

Abuse Treatment, Taking Steps to Build a Healthier Community Founded in 1974, STEPS is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention and treatment of substance abuse. We are the largest such organization in Wayne and Holmes counties. STEPS offers a full continuum of care for substance abusers and their families. Our mission is to prevent and treat chemical dependency and abuse through education and treatment programs, for families and individuals, which meet community needs. Counseling Center Employment Services: Helping people obtain and maintain employment The cycle of failure in employment cannot be broken until all of the factors impacting upon an individual’s ability to get and keep a job are addressed. This is especially true for someone dealing with mental illness. The Counseling Center’s Employment Services are designed to improve each participant’s job seeking skills, to provide support during the job placement process and with coaching once the placement occurs. An integral part of the program is to provide ongoing support to increase successful adjustment to competitive employment and ultimately increased job retention. Some of the skills participants need to develop include: completing job applications, writing resumes, and interviewing. Also included: Concentration on personal and interpersonal relations with supervisors and coworkers, appropriate work attire, punctuality, grooming and hygiene, socialization, transportation training, budgeting, coping skills and strategies, managing psychiatric symptoms in an appropriate manner, and the development of natural supports. The Counseling Center’s Employment Services is nationally certified by the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities and state certified by the Ohio Department of Mental Health. 356 West North Street Phone: 330-287-5800 Wayne Economic Development Council Think Outside the Box The Wayne Economic Development Council is committed to promoting an orderly growth process in Wayne County that will encourage the expansion of existing business and industry and attract new business and industry with quality jobs into the area. Acting as the Ohio Department of Development "local" liaison, the WEDC facilitates activities enabling local existing and potential new industries to participate in grant and financing programs offered locally and through the State of Ohio. The WEDC recruits through marketing efforts and assists new industry with site selection, infrastructure needs, and incentive offerings. To assist existing industries, the council offers retention "tools" and facilitates resources necessary for expansion. Wayne County wants to attract and retain the types of businesses that represent the strongest prospects for quality growth. There are six major categories of industries that best fit the business climate in this area: * Technology-Based Agribusiness Wooster Wayne Metropolitan Housing Authority The mission of the Wayne Metropolitan Housing Authority is to assist low-income families and individuals with safe, decent, and affordable housing as they strive to improve the quality of their lives. The housing authority is committed to operating in an efficient, ethical, and professional manner by adhering to its own core values and fostering partnerships with its client and appropriate community agencies. Current Programs Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program Through the federally assisted Housing Choice Voucher Program, WMHA assists individuals and families by providing subsidized rents to private landlords. We currently have approximately 300 participating landlords assisting 850 families. Public Housing Residents pay 30% of their adjusted monthly income for rent and utilities. WMHA currently manages and maintains 224 units of public housing in Wayne County for low-income residents. These units consist of elderly, multi-family, single-family, and handicapped units. Family Self-Sufficiency Program The FSS program assists families in becoming independent of public assistance by promoting economic self-sufficiency among participating families that meet general eligibility criteria of the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program.

Cost The agency operates on a sliding fee scale that is based on the family size and income. In addition, the agency may bill third party payers or grants to cover the cost of se4rvices along with Medicaid and Title XX. Job Seekers and Employers Employee’s Assistance Program This program provides assessment and referral services to employees of contracted employers. Employees are provided one assessment and one family assessment at no charge. Call us to discuss innovative approaches to creating Drug Free Employee pools. Case Management Case managers help facilitate involvement in counseling and assist clients with services that will be beneficial to their recovery. Ohio Works First / Customers First This Holmes county program helps participants become self-sufficient through education and / or employment. Prevention and Education Speakers are available to present programs covering such areas as anger management, signs of alcohol and other drug abuse, stress management, conflict resolution, assertiveness, communication, peer pressure, or family issues.
